Lot 4016 U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1863 TYPE I RIFLE MUSKET.

Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl 40" rnd with oct shank. Fixed front sight with folding leaf musket rear sight. Left bbl flat is marked "V/P" over an eagle's head. Top of bbl shank and rear of lock have "1863" date. Forward portion of the lock and bolster have American eagle markings over "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Three band fastened walnut stock with iron fittings. Left ear of stock has two partially legible cartouches. Total of 273,265 mfg at Springfield Armory in 1863. CONDITION: bright finish metal has faded to a mottled gray-brown. Stock has worn finish showing numerous scratches, marks and small dents. Ramrod is an incorrect replacement. Sound lock. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling. (01-28571/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
